Decking

Colin finished the decking this afternoon, with the help of Charlotte, the "nail getter outer."  Next step, the slide!

First Window

While waiting for the decking to arrive, Colin installed the first window.  They are sash windows with screens - to keep those pesky mosquitoes out of the playhouse.

Playhouse Deck Beginnings

Yesterday and today, Colin has been hard at work on the playhouse deck.  We've always planned on having a path or small stone patio on the side of the playhouse, maybe with some steps going up through the garden to the patio, but the deck idea is somewhat new.  Colin decided to build the deck before finishing the playhouse, so he will have a level surface on which to put the ladder when doing the remainder of the siding and roof.

Another benefit of the deck is that we can easily attach the slide. The kids are looking forward to that part.  The decking material doesn't arrive until Wednesday, so, we'll have to wait until the kids can enjoy a popsicle on their new deck.

Playhouse Siding

This morning, the kids helped Colin start to hand siding on the playhouse.  Charlotte passed him nails from the dump truck and Alistair even helped hammer in some nails.

Of course it isn't all hard work!

Playhouse Walls

Colin worked upstairs yesterday, and today he took a little time to work on the playhouse.  He finished putting up the walls and cut out the windows. 

Prepping for the Playhouse Roof

Spring is finally here, so it is time to get out and work on the playhouse.  This morning Alistair helped Colin paint the ceiling of the playhouse.

After the ceiling paint dried, it was time to put the sheets up on the roof.

Alistair supervised while Colin attached the sheets to the roof.

Playhouse Roof Framing

The mosquitoes are finally gone so Colin did not get bitten to pieces as he worked on the roof framing today.  He also put the fascia on, so we are ready for the plywood to go on the roof.

Playhouse Walls

Colin finished framing the playhouse walls this afternoon. We think it is more square than the back part of our house.

 

Charlotte loves it.  She calls is "My house" and likes to lay down on the floor and pretend she is sleeping.  She was helping Colin by handing him screws.

The Playhouse

Today Colin and Alistair started work on the playhouse.  Alistair helped Colin bring more wheelbarrels full of gravel to the site, he painted the cedar floor boards, he gave Colin the screws one by one, and he brought all of his own tools (note Alistair's yellow plastic level next to Colin's red one in the picture below).
